Colistin Sulfate PremixVeterinary drug name Generic Name: Colistin Sulfate Premix Trade Name: Active Ingredient: colistin sulfate Description: white powder Pharmacodynamics: Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotics which use its cation surfactant interface to interact with bacterial cell membrane’s lipid bilayer. The interaction will cause penetration to the membrane result in change of permeability and deteriorate the structure inside the cell causing cell death. Colistin is more effective against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, and Shigella. Colistin is not sensitive to Gram-positive bacteria. The drug has cross tolerance with polymyxin B but not to other drugs. Pharmacokinetics: Administration of the drug with oral usage cannot be absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, but through other methods of administration the drug can be absorbed quickly. Once the drug is inside the body, it can spread quickly to heart, lung, liver, kidney, and skeletal muscle. The drug has difficulty spreading to cerebrospinal, thoracic cavity, and articular cavity. The drug is discharged through kidney. Indications: polypeptide antibiotics. In treatment for gastrointestinal tract infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria in porcine and poultry. Administration and Dosage: oral use, porcine: 0.2~2g/l; poultry: 0.2~0.6/l. mix with feed, porcine: 0.4~0.8g/kg. Contraindications: no discomfort has seen with suggested dosage. Precaution: 1. Do not use on layers during laying 2. do not use for continual dosage of the drug for over a week. Withdrawal Time: Porcine and poultry: 7 days. Storage: protect it from light, store in a tightly sealed container and keep in a dry place. |
